Job Description

The Control Room Operator (CRO) is the central nervous system of offshore production operations, responsible for real-time monitoring and control of all process systems via DCS/SCADA. The CRO ensures plant stability, responds to alarms, coordinates field operator activities, and plays a critical role in emergency response. This is a high-responsibility position requiring calm, decisive judgment under pressure.

Responsibilities

DCS/SCADA Operations

  • Monitor and control all production, utility, and safety systems via the DCS/SCADA interface.
  • Manage process alarms effectively, prioritizing critical alarms and guiding field response.
  • Execute startups, shutdowns, and process adjustments in accordance with operating procedures.
  • Maintain the production data historian and generate accurate shift reports.

Coordination & Communication

  • Coordinate field operator activities and communicate process status clearly and promptly.
  • Interface with the Lead Operator, Shift Supervisor, and maintenance teams during operations.
  • Act as the emergency coordinator for the control room during process upsets and emergencies.

Process Control Integrity

  • Monitor and verify all SIS (Safety Instrumented Systems) and ESD trip statuses.
  • Support commissioning and startup activities for new equipment or modifications.
  • Identify and report deviations, equipment defects, and instrumentation anomalies.
Requirements
  • BSc or HND in Chemical Engineering, Process Technology, or Instrumentation.
  • Minimum 5 years of offshore control room operations experience.
  • DCS/SCADA system certification (Honeywell, Yokogawa, ABB, or equivalent).
  • CompEx Ex01–04 certification.
  • Process Control proficiency certification preferred.
  • Ability to interpret complex alarm management scenarios and execute emergency shutdowns.
