Job Description

The Well Site Geologist provides real-time geological supervision during drilling operations, monitoring and interpreting wellbore data to optimize well placement, identify formation changes, and ensure the well is drilled within the geological target. This hands-on role requires the ability to make fast, technically sound decisions in a dynamic rig environment.

Responsibilities

Real-Time Geological Monitoring

  • Monitor and interpret lithology, mud gas shows, cuttings, and wireline logs in real time.
  • Compare actual wellbore geology to pre-drill prognosis and flag significant deviations.
  • Advise the Drilling Engineer and Drilling Superintendent on formation evaluations.
  • Manage directional drilling target windows and geological well-kill criteria.

Data Acquisition & Reporting

  • Oversee mud logging and LWD data acquisition and quality control.
  • Prepare real-time well reports (geological logs, formation tops, formation evaluation).
  • Produce post-well geological reports and end-of-well documentation.

Rig & HSE Integration

  • Participate in rig HSE drills and maintain full offshore safety compliance.
  • Coordinate with the Mud Logger, MWD Engineer, and Drilling Engineer on data integration.
  • Maintain the geological watch and ensure 24/7 geological coverage during operations.
Requirements
  • BSc in Geology, Petroleum Geology, or related geoscience discipline.
  • Minimum 6 years of well site geology experience in offshore drilling operations.
  • Mud logging certification or formal training preferred.
  • IADC Rig Pass certification (mandatory).
  • Proficiency in geological logging software (Elog, RECALL, or equivalent).
