Job Description
The Turner/Welder is responsible for operating lathes to machine parts and performing welding tasks to assemble or repair metal components. This role requires precision in machining, proficiency in various welding techniques, and adherence to safety standards. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Responsibilities
1. Machining (Turning):
- Operate lathes to produce precision parts from metal and other materials.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
- Set up and adjust machine tools and equipment to achieve desired tolerances and dimensions.
- Inspect finished parts to ensure they meet quality and specification requirements.
2. Welding:
- Perform welding operations using techniques such as MIG, TIG, and arc welding.
- Assemble and weld metal components according to specifications.
- Inspect welded surfaces and structures to identify flaws or defects.
- Repair and maintain metal structures and components as needed.
3. Safety and Maintenance:
- Follow all safety protocols and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
- Perform routine maintenance on machines and welding equipment to ensure proper operation.
4. Quality Control:
- Conduct quality checks on machined and welded parts to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Document inspections and maintain records of quality control activities.
- Identify and address any issues or discrepancies in production.
5. Technical Support:
- Collaborate with engineers and other team members to resolve technical issues.
- Provide input on manufacturing processes and suggest improvements.
- Assist in training new employees or apprentices in machining and welding techniques.
6. Documentation:
- Maintain accurate records of machining and welding operations.
- Complete work orders, inspection reports, and other documentation as required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or apprenticeship in machining and welding (preferred).
- Proven experience as a Turner and Welder in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
- Proficiency in operating lathes and welding equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Knowledge of safety standards and practices in machining and welding.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects.
